Leather hats are among the easiest to care for. They’re treated so that stains can’t penetrate deeply. However, to preserve this beautiful material and maintain its shine, it’s best to use specialized leather care kits.
For more tips on hat care in general, click here.
1) Use a brush with slightly stiff bristles to easily remove dust and dirt that may have settled over time.
2) Treat your hat with a leather-specific cream so you can wear it in any season.
3) For daily cleaning, opt for a water-based care spray.
4) To clean the inner grosgrain, turn out the sweatband and sprinkle it with Sommières clay. This dry cleanser will absorb sweat stains. Let it sit for a few hours, then brush and vacuum to remove the clay.
If the stain is recent:
1) Sprinkle the leather with Sommières clay.
2) Wait a few hours for the grease to be absorbed.
3) Gently brush the leather with a soft brush to remove the powder and reveal a hat that looks as good as new!
If the stain is older:
1) Warm the stain on your leather hat with a hair dryer to loosen the grease.
2) Then follow the same steps as above.
Oiling your hat to nourish the material is a task that requires precision and care. Using too much oil can affect the look of your leather hat. Use a spray designed for this fine material, and take the opportunity to waterproof your hat at the same time.
You can also use a nourishing milk or leather cream, as long as you apply the right amount. This care should be repeated at least once a year to keep your hat in top condition.
In general, avoid leaving your hat in direct sunlight, as this can cause it to shrink. If your hat gets wet, let it dry away from any heat source.
